Field notes with reproducible data

Notes from the trenches.

Deep dives into AI infrastructure, distributed systems and platform engineering — each written around a dataset or a system you can rerun, break, or build yourself. No hot takes without a methodology section.

Most AI Helm charts ship without authentication

I pulled the default values of 452 AI/LLM Helm charts from Artifact Hub — including official JupyterHub, Weaviate and Bitnami charts. 55% offer no authentication configuration at all, and 18 expose an unauthenticated service with stock values.

Raft, step by step

A self-paced, interactive walkthrough of the Raft consensus algorithm — the protocol that keeps etcd, Consul, TiKV and CockroachDB coherent across failures. Every concept comes with a live cluster you can break.

Paxos, without the Greek

Demystifying the original consensus protocol — from single-decree to multi-Paxos, with interactive state machines showing exactly where messages go and why they matter.

Consistent hashing, visualized

How modern systems distribute data across nodes — from the basic ring to virtual nodes, bounded loads and jump consistent hashing. An interactive ring you can add and remove nodes from.
